May Half Term Bikeability Course

Uncategorized
Oxfordshire CC are running a Bikeability Holiday course in May. This will be based from Abingdon Fire Station, run by myself and my colleague Sarah. Level 1&2 combined is open to anyone age 9+ that hasn't completed any cycle training previously. L3 is from Age 10 and the rider should really have been riding confidently on-road for a few months and preferably have an Oxfordshire Training Scheme L2 and/or Bikeability L2. Places are limited so book in quickly. By the way.......it's FREE! Here's the link......https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/roads-and-transport/road-safety/cycle-training

It’s that time of year!..

Uncategorized
The cycling season has begun. I have had a totally mad week this week. For OCC, a cycling test in Standlake, preceded by an assessment of a young lady that was struggling. Then, 3 days at Kingham Primary for their Bikeability course. Heavy going! 3 sessions per day after a long drive. Fantastic kids and we had brilliant fun. Unfortunately limited riding in a small village. So to the weekend......Adult Cycling course organised by Healthy Bicester disappointingly only had one sign up but we had a brilliant time! Then followed by a 1:1 session with a young man with a hyper-mobility joint complication. He was going so well when Mum came to collect and he enjoyed every minute!! Knackered now........and that's how it's looking even before Easter which is traditionally…

Spring may be very late, but…….

Uncategorized
I'm still overwhelmed at the enquiries I get at this time of year.  Children and adults.  Learn to Ride, Bikeability, Confidence building.  It's so heartening to learn that many of you are still willing to get out there, and that you're encouraging your children to do the same. I'm getting booked, but........... we will have another instructor soon AND Oxfordshire County Council are seriously looking at Bikeability in addition to their own training programme.  Get out there peeps.  Two wheels are cheap, incredibly healthy, and FUN!! Please don't get dragged into the 'dangerous' fold.  The more cyclists we have, the less motorised vehicles, the better for us all.

Aaahh…stabilizers…..DO NOT USE!!

Uncategorized
Teaching your child to cycle?  Then please read this article which I agree with wholeheartedly.  Stabilizers will only delay your child's progress, make them more nervous, cost you unnecessary pennies!! https://www.islabikes.co.uk/knowledge/teach-your-child-to-ride/the-trouble-with-stabilisers-2/?dm_i=2QC2,ORAU,5BJZ7J,2J6J1,1

The Perils of being Self Employed!

Uncategorized
Hi Everyone, Yes - I went off radar for a while so that I had half a chance of catching up with the backlog.  The demand for help to learn to cycle for children or adults, to learn more road craft as a cyclist, or to just have fun on a bike, is growing and here in Oxfordshire we are seriously lacking in professional help.  I have received funding from Bicester Healthy Town to train up a new instructor BUT I CAN'T FIND ONE!!  If you're at all interested, I'm more than happy to chat.  In the meantime.......I have managed to injure my back!  Docs say around six weeks to sort so I can't see me out there on two wheels until the New Year. So, for those that need…
