Lyn’s Story

I am a National Standard Cycling Instructor based in Bicester, Oxfordshire.  I’m a wife and mum of two lads. In some ways, I could blame them for being here today.

I’ve always enjoyed cycling and have had a bicycle for as long as I can remember.  I cycle mainly for pleasure, at my own pace!  Also for popping out to the village, dentist, work.  It often seems so much easier and far more pleasurable, taking in the scenery from a different perspective.

When the boys were at primary school, volunteers were needed to assist with the cycling proficiency lessons which is where I initially became involved with the whole teaching side of things.  Our local authority then needed cycling proficiency examiners which I trained for and travelled around local schools scaring the life out of 10 year olds whilst testing their road skills.  Cycling Proficiency is slowly being phased out and replaced with Bikeability.

Having worked part-time for Wokingham Borough Council for 3 years delivering Bikeability at schools and also holiday courses within the Wokingham Borough, I have now Oxfordshire based and have joined the County Councils Road Safety Team, delivering the Oxfordshire Cycling Training system, alongside Bikeability in as many of the County’s primary schools as we can get to!  Independently I offer cycling lessons for all, Bikeability Levels 1, 2 and 3, and new for next year, Balance Biking for little people.  I’m also a Breeze Ride Leader.

I carry a current First Aid certificate, safeguarding training, insurance and I’m DBS’d.  I am also a member of the CTC and British Cycling.
